What's Included in the

"Understanding Canine Anatomy & At-Home Massage Techniques" Workshop

Workshop overview

In this workshop, we will explore the basics of canine anatomy with a focus on the musculoskeletal system.

Attendees will learn to identify key muscle groups and joints in dogs, helping them understand the structure that supports their pet’s movement and overall well-being.

Using simple bony landmarks helps everyone to confidently locate these areas.

Understanding Common Areas of Tension or Discomfort:

We will discuss typical areas where dogs may experience tension or discomfort, including the back, shoulders, and hips.

Recognising these common issues can empower owners to better support their dog’s comfort and mobility, especially when introducing massage as part of at-home care.

Workshop Structure:

While this workshop does not include hands-on work with dogs, attendees can practice techniques using provided dog toys. This allows them to familiarize themselves with massage techniques while learning the basics of starting, performing, and ending massages.

Part 1:

Introduction to Canine Anatomy (1 hour)

Overview of Canine Musculoskeletal System:

Learn about key muscle groups and joints

Identifying physical signs and behavioural cues

An essential part of this workshop is recognising the physical signs and behavioural cues that indicate when a dog may be experiencing discomfort.

Understanding these signals not only ensures a safer, more positive experience but also fosters a deeper bond between dog and owner as they work together for the dog’s comfort.

There will be a private Facebook group to join for more encouragement and a community of other dog owners going through similar experiences, where you can share tips, successes, and encouragement.

Part 2:

At Home Massage Techniques (1 hour )

What You Will Learn:

Mastering the Art of Massage:

From effleurage to petrissage, explore safe techniques to help your dog relax and recover.

Starting, Observing, & Ending:

Learn how to set the scene, begin and conclude a session confidently, and gauge your dog’s comfort with subtle clues.

Reading Your Dog’s Body Language: Recognize the behavioural signs and body language that signal comfort, contentment, or stress so you can adjust your approach and deepen trust.

Pressure, Palpation, and the 3 T’s:

Understand the essential “3 T’s” of therapeutic massage and how gentle palpation can help you identify areas of tension and address them appropriately.

By the end, you’ll have the tools to create a personalised, relaxing routine that meets your dog’s unique needs, letting you bring the benefits of massage home and make it part of your bonding time.
